Friday Favorites - Pre-Planned Layouts

I'm here today with another Friday Favorites blog post, and today I'm sharing one of my favorite products from Close To My Heart - their Workshops Your Way scrapbooking kits!

I don't mind coming up with my own layout ideas, but I really love it when all the work has been done for me. I love playing with patterned paper and embellishments, but I don't want to stress about what to cut and where things should go. That's why the Workshops Your Way kits are perfect for me!

For every paper packet in the Seasonal Expressions Idea Books, there is a scrapbooking workshop kit, which includes everything you need to make three two-page 12x12 layouts - plus cards if you want! The cutting and assembly directions are also provided in an easy-to-download PDF file.

Now you may be asking - what if I don't have pictures to go with the layouts? I have a couple responses to this question.
  • If you're worried about matching colors, try printing your pictures in black & white or sepia.
  • If you don't like the chosen designs, look at the back of each patterned paper and see if the back side is more your style.
  • If you don't like the title, try swapping it out for a different one (there are normally extras in the complements pack); or create your own using stamps, die-cut letters, or letter stickers.
  • Look back through your pictures and see what you haven't scrapbooked. Over several years of doing these workshops, I've not yet created a layout that I couldn't find pictures for. Sometimes you just have to be creative!
  • If your pictures aren't the right sizes, play around and see if you can put them on the layout anyway. You don't have to use the exact sizes suggested, and you can cut different photo mats or go without if you want!

Today I'm going to share with you the Some Kinda Wonderful scrapbooking kit, since that's the one I'll be working with in April.

Here's what you receive with this kit:
And here are the three layouts designed for this kit:

Aren't they great?! I will be back on my blog next week to share my layouts created with this kit. I made a few changes to the second layout!

If you'd like to join me in making these layouts next month, I'm having a workshop on Saturday, April 22. All the details can be found on my Upcoming Events page or at the Facebook event page. I hope you'll check it out and join me!

April Card Buffets

I have really enjoyed having a card buffet each month. Card buffets are fun events for both beginner card makers and more experienced crafters! You can learn new techniques and have fun working with lots of different papers and products.

Here's how it works: You come and make as many cards as you want in the two-hour workshop time. Each card is $2 and they are all designed and pre-cut for you. All you have to do is bring adhesive, and I provide the rest! I suggest bringing a regular paper adhesive, glue dots, and some kind of foam tape. I can also provide adhesive for an additional $3.00.

I'm having two card buffets this month, and I hope you'll be able to join me for one of them!
  • Saturday, April 1; 1:30-3:30
  • Wednesday, April 19; 6:30-8:30
  • $2/card

I will be featuring the same 12 cards at both buffets. Here's a picture of all the cards together.

And here are pictures of each individual card.

(You'll be able to change out the red for a different color if you want.)

(You'll be able to change out the blue shimmer trim for a different color if you want.)

Three of the cards this month feature the Some Kinda Wonderful paper packet and the adorable Some Kinda Wonderful Cardmaking stamp set.

Aren't they adorable?!

I really hope you'll join me this month for one of my card buffets! You can RSVP on the Facebook event pages, or you can contact me to sign up.
Please sign up no later than the day before each event.

Thanks,
Bethany Rielage

Mojo Monday 490 - Tea-rrific

I got my Mojo Monday card done on Monday! It's rare that I have a lot of time to craft on Mondays, but I managed to get my card done today.

Here's the sketch for this week:

And here's my card:

As I've done quite a bit lately, I changed things up this week when I made my card. I usually try to make the sketch work with the scraps I already have, which I have found works most of the time. I am also not a huge fan of ribbon, so you won't find much of that on my cards!

For my card this week I chose papers from the Dreamin' Big paper packet. This is the featured paper packet from Close To My Heart this month, and I have really enjoyed working with it. The opposite side of the flowered paper is bugs, so you could always flip it over to make a more masculine card (and maybe choose an image besides tea cups!). I used a scrap of Poppy cardstock, and I matted my stamped piece of White Daisy on a piece of grey patterned paper from the packet.

I stamped the tea cup image with Goldrush ink, and then I used my VersaMark ink pad and white embossing powder to create the sentiment. I finished up the card with some Dreamin' Big Sequins and some black outlining around a few of the pieces of paper.

The stamped image and sentiment come from the Tea-rrific stamp set, which is the March stamp of the month set. This set is only available this month, and you can get it for just $5 with a qualifying order!

If you have any questions about anything I've mentioned, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for stopping by!

April Coffee & Cards

I've had a lot of fun at my last two Coffee & Cards workshops, so I'm excited that I have another one coming up! At this workshop you will complete 12 cards while enjoying coffee (or hot chocolate) and some light snacks.
  • Saturday, April 8
  • 9:30-11:30 am
  • $35

The cost of the workshop covers all of your materials (including adhesive), coffee/hot chocolate and snacks, the use of my supplies, and my instruction. If you would like me to cut your paper for you, it will be an additional $3.

At the workshop you will receive the Here for You Cardmaking Kit. This kit includes an exclusive workshop stamp set, two sheets of Some Kinda Wonderful patterned paper, one roll of White Shimmer Trim, one pack of Black & White Dots, two sheets of cardstock (1 Blossom, 1 White Daisy), and 12 white card bases and envelopes. All of these materials are yours to keep!

The workshop stamp set includes a "I'm Here for You" sentiment and a "You're Not Alone" sentiment. If you don't want to make all of your cards with these two sentiments, I will have additional supplies and ideas for making different cards with your workshop materials. Watch for Friday's blog post, which will highlight these alternative cards!

The sign-up deadline is Wednesday, March 29. This allows me to order the kits in time for the workshop.

You can RSVP on Facebook at the link below, or you can email, call, or text me to sign up. Space is limited, so sign up soon!

Mojo Monday 489 - Congratulations

I'm here with another Mojo Monday card for you. My card this week is very simple, but sometimes that's all you need (or want)!

And here's my take on it:

Like I said before, this card is very simple. I used the sketch as inspiration, but I really wanted to use my scraps "as is" as much as possible, so I substituted the rectangle of black patterned paper for the circle. I still like the way it turned out, and I look forward to making more of these simple cards with my scraps!

All the patterned paper scraps come from the Dreamin' Big paper packet. I love the colors of this packet, and the patterns are so versatile. I also added a few Dreamin' Big sequins for some extra color.

The sentiment comes from the Happy Congratulations Cardmaking Kit. One of the things I love best about the cardmaking kit is the exclusive stamp set you receive. So in addition to all the materials for making 12 cards, you also get a stamp set you can use again and again!

Thanks for stopping by today. If you have any questions about anything I've mentioned, don't hesitate to contact me!

Mojo Monday 488 - Tea-rrific

I really love the simple sketch for this week at the Mojo Monday blog, and I'm looking forward to trying out some other variations when I get a chance. I'll just put that on my never-ending list of craft projects I want to complete! :-) But in the meantime, I'll share my card for this week.

Here's the sketch for this week:

And here's my take on it:

This card came together pretty quickly because I knew I wanted to use paper from the Dreamin' Big paper packet and the March stamp of the month set, Tea-rrific.

I love using lots of patterned paper, so I knew I wanted the background to be a pattern, and I thought this Goldrush paper was perfect - not too overpowering but enough to add interest. I then added another strip of patterned paper to bring in more colors.

I stamped the tea cups in Juniper ink and colored in the designs with our Watercolor Pencils. I mounted the stamped White Daisy cardstock on a piece of Poppy cardstock. I stamped the sentiment in Juniper and added a few Dreamin' Big Sequins to finish it off. The inside of the card finishes the outside sentiment with "it's always there to comfort me." I love when stamp sets include inside sentiments!

Here's the complete March stamp of the month set, Tea-rrific:

This stamp set is only available during the month of March, so be sure to order yours before it's gone! You can purchase it at the full retail price of $17.95, or you can get it for only $5 with a $50 order.
